About Us

MIR Atlanta

A church taught to love God above all things, serve family and the Kingdom of God, being an agent of transformation in the greater Atlanta community.

The Beginning of the MIR in Brazil

To truly understand Mir Atlanta, we must go back in time and revisit the beginning of MIR.
On July 19, 1992, the First Baptist Church of Restoration was born in Manaus — a ministry not of letters, but of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:4). The Lord appointed as pastor of this flock Apostle Renê de Araújo Terra Nova, a man whose heart burns with passion for Jesus and for the advancement of the Gospel of salvation.
The church was founded on teachings that emphasize loving the family — the target of divine grace, “the apple of God’s eye”; looking toward Jerusalem — the city of the Great King; leaving behind the altars of Rome and returning to Zion, celebrating the Biblical Feasts; learning about spiritual warfare; and embracing the full dimension of praise and worship.

MIR Beyond Borders

Mir Manaus has always been committed to sending missionaries throughout the Brazilian states and to the nations, with the purpose of equipping and raising up a new generation of disciples through the Cell Church Model. In June 2006, the Amazonas family arrived in Miami under a clear purpose: to establish in America a genuine ministry of the Cell Movement.
With extensive pastoral and ministerial experience, Apostles Arão and Ester Amazonas began a training project for pastors and leaders in the United States. It was during this time that they connected with some pastors from Atlanta, GA. Under divine direction, the Apostles Amazonas relocated to Atlanta and began the work of implementing the Cell Model in several local churches. In this context, they met Pastors Junior and Adriana do Carmo.

The Beginning of MIR Atlanta

As with every great dream that is born in the heart of God, He seeks men and women of noble minds so that these dreams may become reality on earth. The Lord placed in the hearts of Pastors José Junior and Adriana do Carmo the desire to have a genuine church connected to the Cell Vision in Atlanta — specifically in Marietta, GA.
With this vision in mind, they sought spiritual covering from Apostles Arão and Ester Amazonas, who are active and dedicated members of the International Ministry in Manaus. Who says there is no fruit in the winter season? For it was exactly on January 4, 2009, that a discipleship cell was born — in the garage of the Carmo family’s home.

Pastors Junior and Adriana do Carmo

In December 2010, the Apostles Amazonas, who had walked side by side with us, providing spiritual and ministerial support, had to return to Brazil. It was time to put into practice what the disciples had learned from their mentors. Under a supernatural anointing, Pastors Junior and Adriana do Carmo achieved remarkable ministerial and territorial growth, consolidating the Cell Vision in Marietta, GA.
But our plans are not always God’s plans. On January 29, 2012, it pleased the Lord to call His anointed ones back to Him. In a tragic car accident, while returning from a Cell Vision Conference in Orlando, FL, our pastors José Junior and Adriana, their eldest daughter Leticia do Carmo, Adriana’s brother Edson Carmo, and Roselia Fagundes lost their lives. It was — and still is — a time of deep sorrow for MIR Atlanta, but we are certain that God lives, and that certainty tells us we can believe in tomorrow.

Aps Bobby e Socorro Curtis

In May 1997, Apostle Socorro was led by the Lord to visit the Church of Restoration in Manaus on a Saturday night. It was a powerful vigil, and she had a beautiful experience of healing and deliverance. From that moment, God began to shape in her character and heart a ministerial calling.
In 2007, she traveled to Atlanta for a vacation, where she met her husband, Apostle Bobby Curtis. Together, they walked side by side with Apostles Amazonas and Pastors Carmo, sharing the same purpose: to lead lives to the feet of Christ.
The conquest of new territories became evident, which led them to seek a space that would better facilitate the advancement of the Gospel. Thus, on January 15, 2010, MIR Atlanta was established at 1395, Suite 305, Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA — where it remains to this day.
Thus far the Lord has helped us!

He Who Began the Good Work

The Bible tells us that unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it will not bear fruit. The lives of our pastors were always fruitful, marked by a blameless and holy walk. The mark of their discipleship was imprinted on many here at MIR Atlanta, in Brazil, and in various nations of the earth. Thank you, Carmo family, for being a blessed seed!
Through these pastors, much was learned, and the mission they began continues: the Gospel of Life is being taken to families all over the earth. Apostles Bob and Socorro Curtis understood God’s call, and from January 29, 2012, the Lord entrusted them with the leadership of MIR Atlanta, Georgia.
The work of evangelizing and consolidating lives continues. We can look back with the certainty that it is worth setting our eyes on the future, with hearts full of hope and faith. He who began the good work will continue shepherding and discipling.
